The NewSpace movement has brought with it lower-cost spacecraft and more aggressive risk postures. Design teams are making difficult decisions to be fast and efficient. This often includes paring down or leaving out key elements of traditional space hardware design, analysis, and test. Altogether omitting these processes is often a mistake, as evidenced by the high failure rate of SmallSat missions to-date. Sedaro’s goal is to make many of these design, analysis, and test processes accessible to smaller teams with tighter budgets and more aggressive schedules.

Design Tools

Sedaro's user friendly design tools will automate and simplify repeated, labor intensive tasks for engineers. NewSpace teams need to do more with less - less money, less schedule, and less specialized expertise. We are capturing that expertise in user friendly design tools that will reduce the schedule and engineering cost required to provide mission assurance.

Automated Test Equipment

The goal of automated test equipment is repeatable tests that lead to valuable conclusions regarding the flight readiness, performance, and reliability of the hardware under test. These systems minimize the technician and facility time required to run tests as well as the engineering effort required to organize, present, and analyze data. Sedaro is designing flexible, reconfigurable automated test equipment targeted at small satellite developers. These teams often use extensive testing to burn-down risk and have the most to gain from efficient, cost effective, and repeatable testing.

Our Team

Robbie Robertson, CEO and Co-founder, Sedaro Technologies


CEO, Co-founder

Robbie has over 10 years of experience developing space hardware and was previously the first employee and Product Development Manager at Ibeos, a space avionics provider. At Ibeos, Robbie managed the development, manufacture, and test of small satellite products. In addition, Robbie developed Ibeos' foundational processes/tools for structural and thermal analysis, energy balance analysis, mission planning, and automated testing. Robbie received his B.S. in Aerospace Engineering and Ph.D. in Applied Physics and Space Engineering from Virginia Tech, where he led the mechanical design of three space plasma instruments for the LAICE CubeSat mission. Robbie has held research positions developing physics-based models of spacecraft attitude and orbit dynamics at Los Alamos National Laboratory, Air Force Research Laboratory, and the German Centre for Quantum Engineering and Space-Time Research (QUEST).

Sebastian (Bas) Welsh, CTO and Co-founder, Sedaro Technologies


CTO, Co-founder

Sebastian has a broad technical background with extensive experience in software/firmware development and mechanical and electrical design, test, and manufacturing. He has led a diverse set of space hardware development efforts - from the second 3D printer to operate in space to a GPU-based payload processor that enables on-orbit machine learning. As a Lead Engineer and second employee at Ibeos, a space avionics provider, and Co-founder/CTO of a social network startup, Sebastian has extensive experience as an entrepreneur and technical leader. Sebastian received his B.S. in Computer Science from Virginia Tech. At Sedaro, Sebastian is guiding the detailed development of our products with a commitment to scalability, adaptability, and reliability.

Daniel Martin, COO and Co-founder, Sedaro Technologies


COO, Co-founder

Daniel Martin has a strong background in managing people, budgets, and schedules. In addition to his work at Sedaro, he is currently a Lead Analyst at Technomics, where he provides cost and schedule analysis for large DoD programs with budgets in excess of $150 million. Prior to joining Technomics, Daniel managed Nutravail's production facility for pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals and was responsible for a team of over 40 employees. Daniel received his BS in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Virginia Tech, where he worked as a research assistant at the Center for Space Science and Engineering Research. In addition to managing day-to-day operations, Daniel is committed to building efficiency, structure, and organization at Sedaro.
